Diana C. Archibald on the Dickens Society YouTube Channel
Dr. Diana C. Archibald (Professor of English, University of Massachusetts-Lowell and Dickens Society member/former officer) discusses her work and perceptions of “American Notes for General Circulation” (1842) by Charles Dickens on the related subjects of incarceration and slavery. She also mentions the 2012 “Dickens in Lowell Project” undertaken in partnership between UMass-Lowell and the Lowell National Historical Park along with many of Lowell’s leading civic and cultural organizations. It can be revisited digitally at this link.
To access some of Dr. Archibald’s most recent publications, see the new edition of “American Notes” (Universitas, 2018) which she has edited; it includes the first daily itinerary of Dickens’s activities on American soil during his January – June 1842 visit.
Also, see “Dickens and Massachusetts,” edited by Dr. Archibald and Dr. Joel J. Brattin (University of Massachusetts Press, 2015).
