We’re Recruiting!

Calling all Dickens Society members!

Have you ever dreamt of playing a larger role in the Dickens Society? Did you have such a wonderful time live-tweeting a conference that you never wanted to stop? Are you a genius at conducting, editing, and posting video interviews? Join the Dickens Society Communication Committee, and make all your dreams come true!

We’re currently recruiting interested members of the Society to help with a variety of social media outlets:

  1. The DS website: for the website moderator, major duties include updating the “Events” section so that it stays current, updating information across the WordPress website (new officers, winners of the Partlow essay prize, etc), and posting the new CFP and conference information every year.
  2. The DS Twitter account: Some members pick one day to tweet Dickens-related content, whether from other accounts followed by the DS Twitter, news articles coming from a Google alert for “Charles Dickens” that can be set up, and new content on the DS YouTube or DS blog.
  3. The DS Facebook page: chief duties for the Facebook moderator would be scheduling posts about Dickens – content comes from setting up a Google alert for “Charles Dickens” – moderating comments, and inviting people to “like” the page if they “like” posts people have shared.
  4. The YouTube channel: besides adding relevant new films to our playlists on subjects like “Dickens films” and “Dickens research” (made by other entities or people) those in charge of this channel would make new content, film short interviews at symposiums with scholars, and upload these films.
  5. Other social media: There also may be new ways to extend the reach of The Dickens Society. We don’t have an Instagram, podcast, etc. yet, so new members could develop their own social media projects after joining the CC board and conferring with co-chairs and other members.

All duties of each position are outlined in simple but extensive detail in our DS Communications Committee Handbook, which any new member will receive to simplify their transition into a role. There are 4-5 people running the DS social media right now, meaning that you’ll have people to ask if you are in doubt about something.

For more information, contact current co-chairs, Lydia Craig (lcraig1@luc.edu) and Catherine Quirk (catherine.quirk2@mail.mcgill.ca). To express interest in being involved, or in a specific role, send us a 1-page CV, and a note on which position(s) you’d be most interested in. We look forward to hearing from you!
